The Citadel Gets Spring Waiver; Bryant-Rhode Island Schedule Spring Contest

The Citadel Bulldogs were recipients of a rare favorable ruling by the NCAA to play eight conference games in the spring.

The Citadel played a four-game fall schedule against South Florida, Clemson, Eastern Kentucky, and Army. Due to the NCAA’s restriction on FCS teams playing only 11 games, The Citadel was originally scheduled to play only seven Southern Conference games in the spring.

The NCAA waived that restriction for The Citadel who will play a full conference schedule. The one conference opponent they were not originally scheduled to play was Furman. Both teams have an open date on Saturday, April 10, 2021.

The Bulldogs will now be eligible for the Southern Conference spring football title and the automatic qualifier to the FCS Playoffs next spring.

Bryant-Rhode Island Spring Game Set

The Rhode Island Rams announced a spring non-conference game against the Bryant Bulldogs on Saturday, February 27. Bryant will host the Rams in Smithfield, Rhode Island.

The Rams and Bulldogs have met once previously back in 2002 with Rhode Island shutting out Bryant 28-0 at home.

Brown, Bryant, and Rhode Island will all get to know each other well on the football field over the next decade. The trio is scheduled to play a round-robin each season from 2021 through 2027. Bryant and Rhode Island also have a game planned for 2028 with Bryant hosting.

APR Penalties Waived

The NCAA has decided to suspend APR penalties for the next two seasons. Unfortunately for certain programs, previously announced penalties applied to this academic year will still be in effect.

That means Howard, McNeese, Prairie View A&M, and Stephen F. Austin will still be banned from the postseason next spring. Stephen F. Austin has pursued a full fall campaign and will not play any games in the spring.
