The Bucknell Bison will be trampling over a new football for the 2024 season. The football team shared a post on social media indicating work was underway to replace its previous turf field.
Bucknell originally installed FieldTurf back in 2001 to replace its grass field in Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. The FieldTurf was replaced again in 2012 along with additional improvements to the track outside the football field. The school has been making several improvements to various playing fields in the previous few years and installed a new video board at the football stadium prior to the 2021 season.
Bucknell is at least the fourth FCS team to replace its football field this offseason. The trio of Mississippi Valley State, North Carolina Central, and Tennessee State are installing FieldTurf this year with the latter two replacing their grass surface.
Bucknell will see its first action on the new field on Saturday, September 14 as the Bison host Merrimack. Bucknell also has home dates against Marist (9/21), Cornell (10/19), Lafayette (11/2), Fordham (11/9), and Colgate (11/23).
