The matchup between the South Dakota Coyotes (MVFC) and Portland State Vikings (Big Sky) scheduled for Saturday, September 14, 2024, has been canceled due to an outbreak of whooping cough among the PSU roster. Kickoff was scheduled for 4 PM Eastern Time.
South Dakota was coming into the game following an opening week 45-3 win against NCAA Division II program Northern State at home and a competitive 27-13 loss against the Big Ten’s Wisconsin Badgers last week. Portland State opened the season 0-2 with losses at the Pac’12 Washington State Cougars (70-30) and the Big Sky’s Weber State Wildcats (43-16). The South Dakota-Portland State matchup was set to be the first meeting between the two programs.
South Dakota will welcome the Drake Bulldogs (Pioneer) to Vermillion on Saturday, September 21 with kickoff scheduled for 2 PM ET. While Portland State is slated to play at the Boise State Broncos (Mountain West) on September 21, the current situation with Portland State will be monitored as the week progresses to see if the game can go ahead as scheduled.
