Toyota Stadium – home to the MLS franchise FC Dallas and the current location of the FCS National Championship – will undergo renovations over the next few years. The Frisco City Council approved the $182 million proposal on Tuesday, September 17 and the stadium will be open while the renovations are completed.
Renovations will start on the east portion of the stadium next year after the 2025 FCS National Championship game is completed. After the east side upgrades are finished, the stadium’s west side will undergo renovations in the summer of 2026, and the entire stadium will be open by the end of March 2028. Overall capacity will increase by more than 10% with club seating increasing by 175% and suite capacity increasing by 58%. The stadium roof will be redesigned to put most seats under shade while a new press box, media suites, and broadcast suites will be installed.
Toyota Stadium has hosted the FCS National Championship since the 2010 season and will continue to host the game through at least the 2026 season (2027 National Championship Game). Between the 2010 and 2023 seasons, Frisco has seen the Missouri Valley Football Conference’s North Dakota State and South Dakota State programs win 11 of the 14 titles. Only Eastern Washington of the Big Sky in 2010, James Madison of the CAA in 2016, and Sam Houston State from the Southland in 2020 have been the non-MVFC winners since the FCS title game moved to Frisco.
The 2024 season will culminate in Frisco with the first FCS National Championship game to not be played on a weekend since the 2010 season. The 2025 FCS National Championship will take place on Monday, January 6, and be broadcast by ESPN.
