The 2024 SWAC Football Championship game is all set as the West Division champions Southern will play at East Division champions Jackson State on Saturday, December 7 at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium. The game will kick off at 2 PM Eastern Time and be broadcast on ESPN2. It will be the second meeting in 2024 for the schools as they played a non-conference game on Saturday, September 14 with Jackson State prevailing at home 33-15.
The 2024 SWAC Championship will be Southern’s 9th title game appearance (3-5) since the SWAC was split into divisions in 1999 and the 6th appearance in the last 11 seasons. Southern won the 1999, 2003, and 2013 championships with the 1999 and 2013 titles coming against Jackson State. For JSU, it will be their 8th SWAC Championship appearance (3-4) since 1999 and third in the last four seasons. The Tigers won in 2007, 2021, and 2022 with the latest one coming against Southern.
Both teams captured their respective divisions with one game to spare. Southern’s next game is the Bayou Classic against Grambling State on Saturday, November 30 while Jackson State will travel to Alcorn State on Saturday, November 23 followed by a two-week break. The winner of the SWAC Championship will play in the Celebration Bowl against the MEAC Champion South Carolina State.
