Connell Maynor Out as Alabama A&M Head Coach

Alabama A&M (SWAC) will have a new head coach in 2025 following the removal of Connell Maynor. Maynor went 40-32 overall in his seven seasons and 28-21 in the SWAC, which included the 2021 Spring SWAC Championship. It was Alabama A&M’s first SWAC title since 2006.

Maynor was hired by Alabama A&M for the 2018 season and he led them to a second-place finish in the SWAC East in year one. He accomplished the same in 2019 and followed that up with the SWAC Championship team for the Spring 2021 campaign. In the fall of 2021, the Bulldogs went 7-3 and finished in third place in the SWAC East in what would be the final winning season for them in Maynor’s tenure. AAMU finished 4th in the SWAC East in 2022, 2023, and 2024.

Maynor spent time in the Arena Football League from 1996 through 2006 but also had double duty with his coaching career at the same time. He was the quarterbacks coach at NCAA Division II Fayetteville State from 2000 through 2008 and also the offensive coordinator of the AFL’s Philadelphia Soul in 2007 and 2008. In 2009, Maynor became the offensive coordinator at Fayetteville State before moving on to become a head coach.

He was named head coach of NCAA Division II Winston-Salem State in 2010, right as the Rams were moving back to D-II after 4 years in the FCS. Maynor led WSSU to three straight D-II playoff appearances including a berth in the 2012 National Championship but they fell to Valdosta State 35-7. Maynor went 45-6 overall in 4 seasons with the Rams and moved to Hampton in 2014 where he compiled an overall record of 20-25 in four seasons. For his career, Maynor is 105-63 overall and 71-38 in conference games.
