Tennessee Tech Extends Wilder’s Contract Through 2029

Bobby Wilder has received a contract extension from Tennessee Tech after his first season in Cookeville. Wilder won a share of the Big South-OVC Championship, the school’s first conference title since 2011 as the Golden Eagles finished 7-5. The original contract was set to expire after the 2028 season and is now extended through 2029.

Wilder and TTU started the season against Middle Tennessee and rallied from a two-score deficit to take a slim 25-24 lead with 66 seconds remaining. TTU couldn’t hold the lead as MTSU drove down the field to score a touchdown and ultimately won 32-25. The Golden Eagles then lost a 48-3 contest at top-ranked Georgia but started conference play with back-to-back wins.

October began with a three-game losing streak, putting TTU at 2-5 overall. The Golden Eagles reeled off five straight wins to end the 2024 campaign, including a victory against then-ranked #18 UT Martin in the penultimate regular season game. The season finale victory against Eastern Illinois, combined with other results in the conference, resulted in a 4-way tie atop the standings between Southeast Missouri State, Tennessee Tech, UT Martin, and Tennessee State.

Tennessee Tech hired Wilder in December 2023 to take over from DeWayne Alexander. Wilder was previously the head coach at Old Dominion when it restarted football in 2009 through the 2019 season. Wilder has finished with a winning record each time in his six seasons as an FCS coach (5 with ODU and 1 with TTU). Wilder has a career record of 84-61 overall and 38-34 in conference games and is 53-19 overall in the FCS with ODU and TTU.
