Less than two weeks after completing the 2024 season, Stony Brook is set to replace its football field. Associate Athletic Director Patrick Muffley shared photos on social media showing materials that will be used for the new turf. Stony Brook will continue to use an artificial surface.
Stony Brook plays at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium in New York, which opened in 2002 and had a capacity of 10,300. In 2017, capacity was expanded to 15,000 and the artificial turf was replaced a year later as part of a larger project to improve athletic facilities on campus.
Stony Brook’s 2024 campaign saw a remarkable reversal under first-year head coach Billy Cosh. The Seawolves went 0-10 in 2023 while averaging 15.2 points, 314 yards per game, and giving up 39.2 points per game. In 2024, Stony Brook scored 29.7 points per game, averaged over 400 yards per game on offense, allowed 24.8 points per game, went 8-4, and narrowly missed out on an FCS Playoff spot as one of the first four teams out of the bracket.
The 2025 schedule isn’t set for Stony Brook but they will be running on the new turf in at least five home games involving 4 games against to-be-determined CAA teams and a matchup against Fordham on Saturday, September 13.
