DeSean Jackson Named Delaware State Head Coach

The Delaware State Hornets have hired former NFL wide receiver DeSean Jackson as the school’s next head football coach. The Hornets are following in the footsteps of Norfolk State by hiring a well-known former NFL player without previous head coaching experience.

Jackson played collegiately at California from 2005 through 2007 while earning All-American honors in 2007 and was drafted in the second round by the Philadelphia Eagles with the 49th overall pick. Like Michael Vick, Jackson doesn’t have any head coaching experience but spent 15 years in the NFL. Jackson was a member of the Eagles, Washington Redskins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Los Angeles Rams, Las Vegas Raiders, and Baltimore Ravens. He was named a second-team All-Pro in 2009 and selected to three Pro Bowls in 2009, 2010, and 2013.

Jackson will replace Lee Hull who was fired after only two seasons in charge of Delaware State. Hull went 2-21 overall and 0-10 in the MEAC. Delaware State hasn’t won the MEAC since 2007 and hasn’t finished with a winning record since 2012 when the team finished 6-5. The DeSean Jackson era at Delaware State will begin with a road game at in-state rival and new-to-FBS Delaware on Thursday, August 28, 2025.
