Tarleton State Replacing Football Field

The Tarleton State Texans (UAC) will have a new football field for the 2025 season. The school posted photos on social media showing the previous artificial surface being removed.

The Texans play at Memorial Stadium in Stephenville, Texas, which first opened in 1951. Recent renovations worth $26 million saw the capacity expand to 24,000 while adding a video board and lighting system. Tarleton State originally installed an artificial surface in 2004 and later replaced it in 2017 as part of the renovation project.

Tarleton State joined the FCS in 2020 and posted a 5-3 record as an independent team in the spring of 2021. The school’s first-ever win as a Division I team came against the FBS and New Mexico State 43-17. The Texans went 6-5 overall and 2-3 in the WAC in 2021 followed by a 6-5 overall record and 1-3 WAC record in 2022. Tarleton State went 8-3 overall and finished in a four-way tie for second at 4-2 in the United Athletic in 2023.

Tarleton State’s first year of postseason eligibility was perfectly timed as the Texans went 9-3 overall and 6-2 in the UAC during the 2024 regular season. Tarleton finished in a tie for second place in the UAC once again but it was enough to receive an at-large berth to the FCS playoffs. The Texans were seeded 13th and hosted the first-round game against Drake (PFL). Tarleton State won 43-29 before dropping an exciting 42-31 contest at South Dakota (MVFC) in the second round to finish 10-4 overall.

Tarleton State’s entire schedule is not known for the 2025 season but they currently have one home game slated for September 20 against Chattanooga (Southern). Tarleton State is 35-20 overall since joining the FCS in 2020 and will look to build upon the program’s early success in Division I.
