Mississippi Valley State Hires Terrell Buckley as Head Coach

The Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils (SWAC) have announced the hiring of Terrell Buckley as head coach. Buckley will replace Kendrick Wade who was fired after going 2-21 in two seasons.

Buckley had a long career in the NFL from 1992 through 2005 with seven different teams and started his coaching career at Florida State in 2007 as an assistant safeties coach. In 2008, Buckley was named the assistant wide receivers coach for the Seminoles and became a graduate assistant for the 2009 season. He spent 2010 and 2011 as the weight room coach for FSU before leaving to join Akron as the cornerbacks coach for the 2012 and 2013 seasons.

Buckley would stay in the cornerbacks coaching role for three more stops at the collegiate level, first with Louisville for 2014 and 2015, then with Mississippi State from 2016 through 2019, and finally ending with Ole Miss for the 2020 and 2021 seasons. Buckley was named the head coach of the XFL’s Orlando Guardians for the 2023 season. The Guardians went 1-9 overall and finished last in the South Division. The Orlando franchise was not included in the XFL-USFL merger that occurred before the 2024 UFL season.

MVSU went 1-11 in 2024 and opened the season with 10 straight losses. The Delta Devils pulled one of the biggest upsets in the penultimate game of the 2024 season by defeating Florida A&M on the road 24-21. MVSU hasn’t released its 2025 schedule.
