The University of Incarnate Word (Southland) has extended the contract of head coach Clint Killough. Additional details regarding the extension weren’t immediately available.
UIW has seen a successful run of head coaches dating back to 2018 when Eric Morris took the reins. Morris went 24-18 overall in four seasons and ended his tenure in 2021 with a 10-3 record, a Southland title, and a second round appearance in the FCS Playoffs. G.J. Kinne took over from Morris, leading the Cardinals to a second straight Southland title in 2022 en route to a 12-2 overall record and reaching the FCS semifinals for the first time in school history. Kinne left UIW after one season with Killough named as the head coach after previously serving as the associate head coach.
In 2023, The Cardinals went 9-2 overall and finished second in the Southland with a 6-2 conference record. Their losses came against UTEP (C-USA) in the opener and SLC champions Nicholls. In 2024, Killough led UIW atop the Southland with a perfect 7-0 conference record while finishing 10-2 overall in the regular season with losses at South Dakota State (MVFC) and Southern Illinois (MVFC) in back-to-back weeks. UIW was selected as the sixth overall seed for the FCS Playoffs and dispatched Villanova (CAA) 13-6 in the second round before falling to South Dakota State in the quarterfinals 55-14. Killough received Southland Coach of the Year honors for the 2024 season.
Killough is 20-5 overall and 13-1 in the Southland Conference in his two seasons with Incarnate Word. The Cardinals haven’t released their full 2025 schedule but they are expected to start the season against Eastern Washington (Big Sky) at home on August 30. UIW will travel for back-to-back games at UTSA (American) on September 13 and Northern Arizona (Big Sky) on September 20 before a home game against Abilene Christian (UAC) on September 27.
