The Norfolk State Spartans (MEAC) have added a game against the NCAA Division II Virginia State Trojans to its 2025 slate, according to VSU’s 2025 schedule announcement. The two teams will meet on Saturday, September 6, 2025, in Norfolk, Virginia.
Virginia State is a member of the NCAA Division II Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and went 7-4 overall in 2024, ending the season with a 17-13 loss in the CIAA Championship to Virginia Union. Norfolk State and Virginia State have played the last two seasons with each team coming away with a victory. Virginia State won 33-24 in the Labor Day Classic in 2023 while Norfolk State won 28-23 in the Battle of the States last season. The two schools have met 56 times between 1939 and 2024 with Virginia State holding a 31-23-2 advantage in the series.
Norfolk State went 4-8 overall and 2-3 in the MEAC during the 2024 season. The school let Dawson Odums go after he went 15-31 in four seasons and brought in Michael Vick to lead the program. The Spartans will begin the 2025 season at home on Thursday, August 28 versus Towson (CAA).
