The Northern Colorado Bears (Big Sky) announced their 2025 schedule including the season opener against the NCAA Division II Chadron State Eagles on Saturday, August 30. The Eagles went 3-8 overall in 2024.
Northern Colorado is 5-3 all-time against Chadron State in a series that spans from 1926 through the most recent game in 2007, a matchup won by the Eagles 31-0. Chadron State is located in Chadron, Nebraska, and competes in the NCAA Division II Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). Chadron State is the first non-Division I opponent for the Bears since 2017 when they played NAIA member College of Idaho to start the season.
After the opener, Northern Colorado hits the road for its next three games with non-conference trips to Colorado State (Mountain West) on September 6, South Dakota (MVFC) on September 13, and Houston Christian (Southland) on September 20. UNC will begin the Big Sky with a home game against Idaho State on September 27 followed by an open week on October 4.
The Bears will have back-to-back road games at Idaho on October 11 and Sacramento State on October 18 followed by two home games. UNC will face UC Davis on October 25 and Montana State on November 1 in Greeley before hitting the road for another two games. Northern Colorado travels to Northern Arizona on November 8 and Eastern Washington on November 15 and will play the regular season finale at home against Portland State on November 22.
Northern Colorado went 1-11 overall and 1-7 in the Big Sky last year. The lone victory was a 21-17 upset of then-20th-ranked Weber State on October 12. The Bears and head coach Ed Lamb agreed to a 2-year extension after the season that could see Lamb remain in Greeley through the 2028 season.
