The Northern Iowa Panthers (MVFC) will play at the Nebraska Cornhuskers (Big Ten) in the 2027 season. The Cornhuskers announced a series of scheduling moves, including the game versus UNI in Lincoln, Nebraska on Saturday, September 18, 2027. It will be the second meeting between the programs following the 2024 matchup won by the Cornhuskers 34-3.
Northern Iowa has an FBS opponent scheduled for the next four seasons: Wyoming (Mountain West) in 2025, Iowa (Big Ten) in 2026, Nebraska in 2027, and Iowa State (Big 12) in 2028 (and again in 2031). The Panthers last defeated an FBS opponent in 2016 when they beat the Iowa State Cyclones 25-20.
Along with UNI in 2027, Nebraska will play against Houston Christian (Southland) in 2025, North Dakota (MVFC) in 2026, and South Dakota State (MVFC) in 2028 and 2030. The Cornhuskers are 16-0 all-time against FCS opposition. The closest margin of victory was 7 points in 2014 when the McNeese Cowboys nearly pulled the upset. The two teams were tied at 24 in the final minute of the game but an electric Ameer Abdullah touchdown catch saved the Huskers.
