Grambling State Adds Langston for 2025 Season Opener

The Grambling State Tigers (SWAC) have added the Langston Lions for the 2025 season-opening contest. The two teams will meet in the Shreveport Kickoff Classic on Saturday, August 30, in Shreveport, Louisiana. The game is scheduled for a 7 PM start.

Langston is a member of the Sooner Athletic Conference in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). Grambling State and Langston have met six times since 1977 with the Tigers holding a 5-1 series lead including the most recent matchup 13-2 in 2008.

Grambling State now has two non-Division I opponents lined up for the 2025 season. The Tigers will take on the Kentucky State Thorobreds (NCAA D-II SIAC) on Saturday, September 13. In between non-Division I opponents is a matchup at the Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday, September 6.

Langston has two games against FCS opponents in 2025 with the other matchup against the UTRGV Vaqueros (Southland) on Saturday, September 13. Langston is replacing another Sooner Athletic Conference team in North American University on that date, following its discontinuation of the football program.

58 games have been scheduled between FCS and non-Division I teams in the 2025 season, a number that could fluctuate. 10 matchups involve FCS versus NAIA programs, while the SWAC has the most games outside Division I at 14. The Pioneer Football League has 13 scheduled, following the closure by the NAIA’s St. Andrews University removed the Davidson matchup from the docket.
