Abilene Christian, UTRGV Extend Head Coaches

A pair of Texas football programs extended their head coaches this week. The Abilene Christian Wildcats and the UTRGV Vaqueros each agreed to three-year extensions with their top coaches.

Keith Patterson and ACU could stay together through the 2029 season. Patterson has led the Wildcats to back-to-back United Athletic Conference titles in 2024 and 2025. ACU reached the second round of the FCS playoffs and finished 9-5 both seasons. Patterson has a 30-20 overall record, 20-6 in conference games, and won three conference titles (2022 WAC) in 4 years with the Wildcats.

At UTRGV, Travis Bush is now extended through the 2030 season. The first football season in program history was a rousing success, with Bush leading the Vaqueros to a 9-3 overall record. The three losses came on the road at the hands of eventual FCS playoff teams: Lamar, Southeastern Louisiana, and Stephen F. Austin. UTRGV finished tied for third in the Southland Conference in its first season and expectations are high for the future.
