Presbyterian Promotes Matt Rahl to Head Coach

The Presbyterian Blue Hose promoted Matt Rahl to head coach. Rahl previously served as the team’s offensive line, run game coordinator, and offensive recruiting coordinator since 2024.

Rahl played tight end at Missouri Southern State and became a student assistant at MoSo in 2002. In 2003, he became a graduate assistant at Winona State for two seasons before joining the staff in 2005 and 2006 as the offensive line coach and special teams coordinator. He spent the 2007 and 2008 seasons as a graduate assistant with the Missouri Tigers, followed by a five-year stint at Wyoming. He started as the recruiting coordinator in 2009 and 2010, added the defensive line coaching duties for 2011 and 2012, and returned to the recruiting coordinator in 2013.

In 2014, Rahl was named the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at McKendree. He added the associate head coach title for 2017. Rahl joined UTEP in 2018 as the recruiting coordinator and became the offensive quality control coachin 2019. In 2020, he returned to Missouri Southern State as the associate head coach, offensive coordinator, and offensive line coach. From 2021 through 2023, he was the associate head coach and OC.

Rahl joined Presbyterian’s coaching staff in 2024 under Steve Englehart. Rahl helped improve the 2023 team from 4-7 overall to 6-6 in 2024. The 2025 season saw Presbyterian reach a 10-2 record and was one of the first four teams out of the FCS playoffs. Rahl will look to continue the momentum built by Englehart, who left for West Georgia.

Presbyterian’s 2026 schedule hasn’t been revealed, but we know of at least one opponent, according to FBSchedules. The Blue Hose will play at Western Carolina on Saturday, September 19. Presbyterian upset both of its 2025 Southern Confernece opponents to start the season, which nearly led to the school’s first FCS playoff appearance.
