Division I-AA Seasons: 1978 Through 1979

The 1970 – 1979 decade of the FCS was a short one, given that it comprised only two seasons. The split of Division I into FBS and FCS took place in 1978, with Florida A&M capturing the inaugural FCS National Title. To date, it is the only National Title for both FAMU and a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) member. Eastern Kentucky captured its first FCS title in 1979 and kick-started its nearly two-decade dominance of the Ohio Valley Conference.
