Between 1978 and 2023, there have been 722 FCS playoff games and 32 have ended in overtime. That equates to about 4.5% of all FCS playoff games that have needed overtime to decide a winner. To date, no game has lasted more than three overtimes, nine games have lasted two overtimes, and 20 games ended after one overtime.
The Big Sky has played in the most overtime games at 12 and also has the most OT wins at 8. Among individual teams, Montana and Nevada have the most overtime games with four and both have identical 3-1 records in those games.
