Throughout the FCS’ long history, many more teams have existed and played in the playoffs compared to the number of conferences. Below is a visualization that shows each team’s performance for every season. Clicking or hovering on a bar will show each round a team played in, the opponent, the result (win or loss), and the final score for each game in a specific season’s playoff. The visualization has been limited to only the seasons a team has been in the FCS (i.e. Appalachian State joined the FCS in 1982 and left after the 2013 season so the chart does not include anything after 2013). In addition, teams that have not played a playoff game are still included.
The second table condenses all that information to provide a total record for each team from 1978 through 2023. The total number of games, total wins, total losses, road wins, road losses, home wins, home losses, national championship wins, and national championship losses are provided. Any of the columns present can sort the table and there is a search function to the left above the table. An asterisk* indicates a team that is no longer a member of the FCS. A history of playoff records for each FCS conference – current and former – can be found here.
