Kentucky special teams coordinator Dean Hood has been hired as the next head coach of the Murray State Racers.
Hood returns to the Ohio Valley Conference where he was head coach of Eastern Kentucky from 2008 – 2015. He went 55-38 in 8 seasons with 2 conference titles, 3 FCS Playoff appearances (0-3 record), and only 1 losing season.
After the 2015 season, Hood spent two years as an assistant head coach and tight ends coach for the Charlotte 49ers. The last three seasons were at Kentucky as special teams coordinator and as a defensive coach.
Hood will be tasked with getting the Racers back to the FCS Playoffs for the first time since 2002. Murray State finished 4-8 in 2019 and have not had a winning season since 2011 when they went 7-4 and finished 2nd in the OVC.
