The Lamar Cardinals (Southland) have added a 2026 matchup against the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns (Sun Belt). Lamar will travel to Lafayette, Louisiana on Saturday, September 5, 2026.
It will be the 35th all-time meeting between the schools in the series dating back to 1923 with the two sides meeting annually between 1965 and 1983. Louisiana holds a 22-12 lead in the series but the record books reflect a 21-12 lead because the NCAA vacated their 40-0 shutout from 2012. Before the 2012 matchup, the previous game was in 1989 when Louisiana won 42-33. Lamar’s most recent victory against Louisiana was in 1981 when they prevailed 14-12 at home.
With the addition of Louisiana, Lamar now has four FBS opponents on its scheduling including North Texas (AAC) in 2025, Rice (AAC) in 2027, and Texas State (Sun Belt) in 2029. Louisiana also has a game against in-state opponent McNeese (Southland) set for the 2025 season. There are now 88 FCS versus FBS matchups set for the 2026 season with a full listing of future FCS-FBS games here.
