Valparaiso (Pioneer Football League) is making a head coaching change as Landon Fox’s contract will not be renewed by the university. Fox went 21-42 at Valpo in his six seasons from 2019 through 2024. He is also the first FCS coaching change since the end of the regular season.
Fox was an assistant coach at the high school and collegiate levels from 2000 through 2004. In 2005, he became the linebacker and special teams coach for NCAA Division II Wayne State in Detroit, Michigan. After three years with the Warriors, he was named the defensive backs coach at Dayton for the 2008 season. In 2010, he became the defensive coordinator for the Flyers, which lasted until the 2018 season when he accepted the head coaching job at Valpo beginning with the 2019 season.
The Beacons started 1-11 in Fox’s first year and improved in the 2021 spring season to 4-2. They finished in a tie for second in that campaign just a half-game behind Davidson for the PFL title. Valpo went 4-7 and 5-7 in the 2021 and 2022 seasons, respectively, and then dropped to 3-8 in 2023. The Beacons finished 4-7 in 2024 as Fox went 16-26 in the PFL games over his six years in charge.
Valparaiso hasn’t won the Pioneer Football League since 2003 when it defeated Morehead State in the conference’s championship game. Since that 2003 season, the Beacons have only had two winning seasons in 2017 under Dave Cecchini and the 2021 spring season with Fox.
