Delaware State Fires Lee Hull After Two Seasons

Lee Hull has been fired by Delaware State (MEAC) after only two seasons in charge. The Hornets went 2-21 in Hull’s tenure and finished in last place both seasons. Hull is the second MEAC coaching change in the 2024-25 offseason.

Hull took over in 2023 following Rod Milstead’s five-year tenure where DSU went 17-33 overall and 9-30 in the MEAC. The 2023 campaign started with a 22-11 loss to NCAA Division II Bowie State as the Hornets went 1-10 overall. The lone win came against Virginia-Lynchburg, which is not affiliated with the NCAA or NAIA. The 2024 season started with a loss at Hawaii and a win on the road against Sacred Heart but it went south again as DSU finished with 10 straight losses. The Hornets went 0-10 in the MEAC across the 2023 and 2024 seasons with only three of those games decided by less than one score.

Prior to his time at Delaware State, Hull had been the wide receivers coach at Holy Cross (1998 – 2002), Oregon State (2003 – 2007), and Maryland (2008 – 2013). He was named head coach of Morgan State for the 2014 and 2015 seasons where he went 12-12 overall, 10-6 in the MEAC, and made a first-round FCS Playoff appearance in 2014. After Morgan State, he coached wide receivers with the Indianapolis Colts in the NFL, Wagner (2019), and was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Howard (2020 – 2022).

Delaware State hasn’t won the MEAC since 2007, when it reached the first round of the FCS Playoffs, and hasn’t had a winning season since Kermit Blount went 6-5 in 2012.
