The Morgan State Bears (MEAC) will play the South Alabama Jaguars (Sun Belt) on Saturday, August 30, according to South Alabama’s athletic website and first reported by FBSchedules. It will be the first football matchup between the two schools.
South Alabama was slated to play Florida A&M (SWAC) on August 30, but the Rattlers will play in the Orange Blossom Classic against Howard (MEAC) instead. As a result, FAMU’s FBS opponent for 2025 is Florida Atlantic (American Athletic) on Saturday, September 6. FAMU had two changes of FBS opponents for 2025 as they were originally scheduled to play at the Florida Gators (SEC) on October 11 but the Gators changed their opponent to Long Island (Northeast).
South Alabama has one FCS opponent beyond the 2025 season with a matchup against Southeastern Louisiana (Southland) scheduled for 2026. It is not clear if the game against Florida A&M has been canceled or rescheduled for a future season. South Alabama has only one loss against FCS teams in its 12 games. The Jaguars lost in 2013 by a point to Southern Utah 22-21.
Morgan State will take on two FBS teams in 2025 with a second FBS matchup to take place on Saturday, September 13 at Toledo (MAC). Morgan State also has a game against Syracuse (ACC) set for the 2029 season. Morgan State has yet to defeat an FBS opponent in 21 matchups between 2004 and 2024. The closest the Bears were to pulling an upset was a pair of three-point losses at Eastern Michigan (MAC) in 2014 and Akron (MAC) in 2023.
