The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (Southland) and Texas Tech Red Raiders (Big 12) will meet on Saturday, September 2, 2028, according to FBSchedules. The Lumberjacks will receive $500,000 for the game.
SFA and Texas Tech have played four previous times between 2001 and 2021 with the Red Raiders winning all four matchups. The most recent matchup in 2021 was the closest game in the series as Tarleton State held a 13-7 halftime lead and Texas Tech eventually escaped with a 28-22 victory.
Stephen F. Austin currently has three future FBS opponents scheduled: Houston (Big 12) for the upcoming 2025 season, Texas Tech in 2028, and Louisville (ACC) in 2030. Meanwhile, Texas Tech already has its FCS opponents scheduled through the 2029 season. The Red Raiders will face Arkansas-Pine Bluff in 2025 and 2027, Abilene Christian (UAC) in 2026, SFA in 2028, and Incarnate Word (Southland) in 2029.
