The UTRGV Vaqueros (Southland) completed their inaugural schedule for a second time. UTRGV will play against the Langston Lions on Saturday, September 13, as reported by FBSchedules. Langston is a member of the NAIA’s Sooner Athletic Conference.
UTRGV was previously scheduled to face North American University on September 13 but NAU discontinued its football program in February, leaving the Vaqueros without an opponent.
Langston is one of three non-FCS opponents that UTRGV will face at home in 2025. The Vaqueros will also face the Sul Ross State Lobos from the NCAA Division II Lone Star Conference on August 30 and Texas Wesleyan from the Sooner Athletic Conference on Saturday, September 20. UTRGV’s first FCS opponent will be Prairie View A&M (SWAC) in Prairie View, Texas on Saturday, September 6.
UTRGV announced the addition of football in November 2022 and moved to the Southland Conference beginning with the 2024-25 academic year. The first season will feature SLC games at Southeastern Louisiana (9/27), home to Houston Christian (10/4), at Lamar (10/18), home to Incarnate Word (10/25), at Stephen F. Austin (11/1), home to Nicholls (11/8), at McNeese (11/15), and the regular season finale at home against East Texas A&M (11/22).
