Davidson’s (PFL) final non-conference game versus St. Andrews will no longer take place after St. Andrews announced it will close at the end of the semester. The two teams were scheduled to play on Saturday, September 20. There are now 57 FCS versus non-Division I matchups scheduled for the 2025 season.
St. Andrews was a member of the NAIA’s Appalachian Athletic Conference and had played Davidson twice before in 2022 and 2023. Davidson won both games handily. It is not known if Davidson will replace the matchup against St. Andrews with a new opponent.
This is the third time this offseason an FCS school has had to replace a game against an NAIA opponent. In February, North American University announced it had discontinued its football team, leaving Prairie View A&M and UTRGV to find replacements. Prairie View ended up scheduling non-affiliated Lincoln University (CA) while UTRGV added the NAIA’s Langston Lions.
Davidson is coming off a 6-5 season in 2024 and saw head coach Scott Abell leave for Rice in the offseason after seven successful seasons with the Wildcats. Saj Thakkar was hired from NCAA Division II Bentley University to replace Abell and will start the season on Saturday, August 30, at home versus Georgetown (Patriot League).
