Four FCS Teams Add West Virginia to Future Schedules

The West Virginia Mountaineers (Big 12) added four FCS teams to their future schedules through the 2031 season. The Mountaineers are slated to face Robert Morris (NEC) on Saturday, August 30, to begin the 2025 season.

In 2026, UT Martin (OVC-Big South) will play at West Virginia on Saturday, September 12. It will be the first meeting between the schools. In 2027, VMI (SoCon) will travel to Morgantown on Saturday, September 11. The Keydets will also play at WVU on Saturday, August 30, 2031. WVU holds an 11-0 lead in the series, which spans from 1952 through 1972.

In 2028, Youngstown State (MVFC) will play at West Virginia on Saturday, September 9. The two schools met in 1938, 2016, and 2018, with the Mountaineers winning all three matchups. Robert Morris will make another appearance in Morgantown for the 2029 season on Saturday, September 15.

West Virginia also announced a change of opponents for the 2030 season as Rhode Island will make the trip to Morgantown on Saturday, August 31. The URI-WVU game will be the first matchup between the two schools. The Rams will replace Saint Francis, who is leaving the FCS to join NCAA Division III beginning with the 2026-27 academic year. Saint Francis also has future games against Bowling Green (MAC) in 2026 and Ohio (MAC) in 2027 that won’t be played.

Over 420 games between FCS and FBS schools are scheduled for the next 10 seasons. A full list of those matchups can be found here.
