Ted White will be the next head coach for the Howard Bison. White was most recently an offensive analyst on Maryland‘s coaching staff.
White played collegiately at Howard as a quarterback from 1995 through 1998. He helped lead the Bison to a 10-2 record in 1996 and set numerous school and MEAC records in his tenure. White spent time in the CFL, NFL, and NFL Europe between 1999 and 2005.
In 2006, he began his coaching career at Texas Southern as the quarterback and wide receivers coach. In 2010, he became the offensive coordinator and quarterback coach at Southern. In 2011, he returned to his alma mater for the first time as the assistant head coach, OC, and QB coach. He held those positions through the 2015 season and later joined Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the same capacity in 2016.
After three seasons at UAPB, White became the OC and QB coach at Florida A&M for the 2019 season. He would become the QB coach in 2020 for the XFL’s DC Defenders, followed by a season at Maryland as an offensive quality control coach in 2021. White would go to the NFL for the 2022 season, joining the Houston Texans as an offensive assistant and quarterbacks coach. He would return to the college sidelines in 2024 as the QB coach at UCLA.
White will take over Howard after Larry Scott joined Auburn as an assistant coach. Scott spent six seasons at Howard, going 23-37 overall and 12-15 in the MEAC, winning two MEAC titles in 2022 and 2023. The Bison are slated to begin the Ted White era on Saturday, August 29, against Alabama A&M in Atlanta, Georgia.
