Elon and Merrimack have added an FBS opponent for the 2024 season. Elon will play at Duke in week one with the contest to take place on either Friday, August 30, or Saturday, August 31.
The most recent matchup between the two teams was in 2014 when Duke won 52-13. Elon has played 15 games against FBS opponents through the 2023 season but has yet to topple one of their opponents in those matchups. The matchup versus Duke will be the 9th time they’ve faced an ACC opponent as an FCS program.
Merrimack will play against Connecticut in 2024 although a specific date has not been announced. Merrimack will also play Air Force in 2024 on August 31. Merrimack’s first game against an FBS opponent was in 2023 when they lost 31-21 against Massachusetts. The Warriors will have a new head coach for 2024 as Mike Gennetti takes over for Dan Curran who departed for the Holy Cross head coaching job. Merrimack may also have a new home for football in 2024 as they are leaving the Northeast Conference following the 2023-24 academic year and its future football conference has yet to be decided.
With Elon and Merrimack adding games to the 2024 schedule, 111 FCS versus FBS matchups are scheduled for the 2024 season. A full list of those matchups, and future FCS-FBS games, can be found here.
