Jackson State Extends T.C. Taylor’s Contract

T.C. Taylor has received a contract extension from Jackson State as the Tigers look to contend for another SWAC title. Taylor is in his second season with JSU after going 7-4 in 2023 and is 14-6 overall. Specific details regarding contract length and compensation were not disclosed.

Taylor has been with Jackson State since 2019 when he was hired as the wide receivers and tight ends coach under John Hendrick whose contract was not renewed. Deion Sanders kept Taylor on the staff after he took over the following season during the COVID-19-impacted year. Sander led the Tigers to a 4-3 overall record with Taylor adding offensive coordinator responsibilities to his WR/TE duties. Jackson State went a combined 23-3 in 2021 and 2022, winning the SWAC Championships in both seasons with Taylor as offensive coordinator.

After Sanders left for Colorado, Taylor was promoted to head coach for the 2023 season. The Tigers finished in a tie for second place in the SWAC East with Alabama State at 5-3 in conference and 7-4 overall. For 2024, Jackson State is 7-2 overall, 5-0 in SWAC play, and is currently atop the SWAC East Division standings. If the Tigers claim the SWAC East title, they will play in the SWAC Championship for the third time in four seasons following the 2021 and 2022 SWAC titles.

Taylor played collegiately at Jackson State from 1998 through 2001 as a quarterback and wide receiver. He tallied 188 receptions for 1,793 yards in 19 games as a wideout including 84 catches for 1,234 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2001. Taylor’s 84 catches in 2001 remain a school record.
