The Mercer Bears (Southern Conference) will play fellow in-state FBS opponent Georgia Tech (ACC) in the 2026 season, as reported by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Mercer will travel to Atlanta on Saturday, September 26, 2026, and receive $475,000 for the contest along with an allocation of 5,000 tickets and another 400 complimentary tickets.
Mercer and Georgia Tech have played 18 times dating back to 1892, per Mercer’s records. Mercer won the first meeting 12-6 but has gone winless since that first matchup. The two teams last met in 2016 when Georgia Tech dispatched the Bears 35-10 to push the overall series lead to 16-1-1. Georgia Tech’s records show 16 matchups all-time with a 14-1-1 series lead with matchups from 1903 and 1906 in Mercer’s record book that are not in GT’s records.
Mercer has played an FBS school each season since 2016 with Auburn scheduled for the 2025 season on Saturday, November 22, 2025, and now the Yellow Jackets in 2026. Mercer is 0-10 in those games. Georgia Tech has played an FCS opponent each year since 2021 and will face Gardner-Webb on Saturday, September 6, 2025. The Yellow Jackets’ most recent loss to an FCS team was in 2019 when The Citadel upset GT 27-24 in overtime.
The addition of Mercer and Georgia Tech is the 87th FCS versus FBS game scheduled for the 2026 season and there are 370 future FCS-FBS games scheduled between 2025 and 2034. A full listing of those games is available here.
