The Florida Gators (SEC) will swap out its FCS opponent for the 2025 season according to Swamp247. The Gators will welcome Long Island University (Northeast) to the Swamp on Saturday, August 30.
The Florida A&M Rattlers (SWAC) were set to travel to Gainesville on Saturday, October 11, 2025, but that game will be pushed to a different season or canceled. FAMU opens the 2025 season against South Alabama (Sun Belt) on Saturday, August 30. LIU had two FBS opponents on its 2025 schedule before the change with games against Florida International (C-USA) on Saturday, August 30, and Eastern Michigan (MAC) on Saturday, September 6. The FIU game will either be pushed to a different or canceled. FIU currently does not have an FCS opponent scheduled for the 2025 season.
LIU and Florida have never met in football with the Sharks being a recent addition to the FCS in 2019. The Sharks have played 8 games against FBS since 2021 and have gone winless in those matchups. Meanwhile, Florida has only suffered one loss against the FCS when Georgia Southern pulled the 26-20 upset in 2013. The Gators are 25-1 all-time against I-AA/FCS opponents.
With the changes above, there are 111 FCS versus FBS matchups set for the 2025 season although that number will fluctuate due to other scheduling announcements and changes.
