Tarleton State (United Athletic) will open the 2025 season on the road at Army (American Athletic), according to FBSchedules. The two teams will meet for the first time on Saturday, August 30, in West Point, New York. Tarleton will receive $250,000 for the contest.
Tarleton State was expected to play at Texas A&M in 2025 until the SEC announced its schedule earlier in December. Tarleton State was swapped out for Samford (Southern) leading the Texans without a known opponent. For Army, they were slated to play against Marist (Pioneer) on Saturday, September 13 but that game won’t take place as the Black Knights already have 4 non-conference games.
Outside the Army matchup, Tarleton has one other FBS opponent scheduled and that is North Texas in 2027 while the Texas A&M game is to be determined. Army has two future matchups against The Citadel (Southern) in 2029 and 2033 scheduled with the Marist matchup remaining in limbo until confirmation of a cancellation or new date. There are 118 FCS versus FBS matchups scheduled for 2025 with a full list available here.
Tarleton State went 10-4 overall and made its first FCS playoff appearance in 2024. The Texans lost 42-31 on the road in the second round to the fourth-seeded South Dakota Coyotes. Army made history in 2024 as well when it won the American Athletic title in its first season as an affiliate member.
