Norfolk State to Play Rutgers in 2028

The Norfolk State Spartans (MEAC) will have a 2028 contest against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (Big Ten), according to NJ.com. The game is scheduled to be played on Saturday, September 2, 2028, and Norfolk State will receive $450,000.

Rutgers is 4-0 all-time versus Norfolk State with victories in 2007, 2010, 2013, and 2015. The two teams are slated for a 2025 matchup as well on Saturday, September 13. It will be the third game of Michael Vick’s Norfolk State tenure after the Spartans made a splash hire to try and turn the program around.

Norfolk State has a plethora of future FBS opponents beyond the 2025 season. The Spartans will play at Old Dominion (Sun Belt) and Virginia (ACC) in 2026, Old Dominion in 2027, Wake Forest (ACC) and Miami (OH) (MAC) in 2028, and East Carolina (American) and James Madison (Sun Belt) in 2030. Rutgers currently has a 2026 matchup versus Howard (MEAC) schedule in addition to the 2025 and 2028 games versus Norfolk State.
