Butler Adds NCAA Division III Hanover College to 2025 Schedule

The Butler Bulldogs (PFL) will make an in-state trip to play at Hanover College, according to Hanover’s website and as first noted by FBSchedules. Hanover is a member of the NCAA Division III Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC).

Butler will travel to Hanover, Indiana, on Saturday, September 13 to face the Panthers. It will be the 25th all-time meeting between the schools in a series that dates back to 1887. Butler holds a 22-1-1 record and hasn’t lost to Hanover since 1907. The teams played to a 0-0 tie in 1919 with Butler winning 10 games in a row after that matchup.

Butler and Hanover didn’t meet between the two matchups in 1935 and 2006. They met again in 2007 and 2009, with the latter being at Hanover. In the most recent matchup, Butler defeated Hanover 53-0 last year at home. Butler is not the only FCS school to be playing a road game against a non-Division I opponent this season. Fellow PFL member St. Thomas (MN) will be playing at NCAA Division II Northern Michigan (GLIAC) on the same day.

There are now 57 FCS versus non-Division I matchups set for the 2025 season, which matches last year’s final number (one game was canceled). Butler and Valparaiso are the only two FCS schools with a matchup against an opponent from NCAA Division III.
