Southern Makes Terrence Graves Permanent Head Coach

Southern has shed the interim tag and given Terrence Graves the head coaching position permanently. Graves was the interim coach for the Jaguars in the 2023 Bayou Classic, which they won 27-22.

Graves has spent significant time with Southern having been a graduate assistant in 1994 and 1995 followed by an assistant coach from 1996 through 2002. After spending the 2003 season with Norfolk State as a defensive coordinator, he returned to Southern for the DC position from 2004 through 2009.

Graves was the associate head coach at Mississippi Valley State from 2010 through 2013 before joining Southern’s Bayou Classic rival Grambling State. Graves was the special teams and linebacker coach from 2014 through 2022 and was the interim coach for the 2021 Bayou Classic, which Grambling won 29-26.

Graves was the associate head coach, special teams coach, and linebacker coach at Southern for the 2023 season under former head coach Eric Dooley. Dooley was let go after two seasons with Southern in which he compiled a 12-10 overall record and went 9-6 in SWAC games. Southern hasn’t won the SWAC Championship since 2013 and has gone 0-4 in SWAC title games since their last SWAC triumph.
