Albany and Texas Southern Add FBS Opponents for 2025; Northwestern State, SFA Have New Rivalry Trophy

Albany (CAA) and Iowa (Big Ten) have scheduled a 2025 matchup, according to FBSchedules. The Hawkeyes were set to host Florida Atlantic on August 30, 2025, but have moved that to the 2030 season to add Albany. The Great Danes will travel to Iowa City on August 30, 2025 and receive $500,000 for the matchup. The two schools have never met in football.

Texas Southern (SWAC) has added a game against California (ACC) for the 2025 season. The Tigers will play at Cal on Saturday, September 6, 2025 in the first meeting between the two schools. The Tigers are also slated to face UTEP (2026), Tulsa (2027), and Texas State (2028) in the coming years. There are now 105 FCS versus FBS matchups scheduled for 2025 with a full list of all future games available here.

Northwestern State and Stephen F. Austin have announced a new rivalry trophy that will replace the Chief Caddo trophy. The new trophy will still be 7 feet, 6 inches, and weigh 320 pounds but will have an axe representing the Lumberjacks on one end and a pitchfork representing the Demons on the other end. Whichever team wins the game will have the logo face upward. The trophy is not entirely complete as both schools will consult with the Caddo Nation to see how they can be incorporated into the new design. Northwestern State and SFA are scheduled to meet on Saturday, October 5 for the 78th time dating back to 1924. Northwestern State leads the all-time series 46-28-3 while SFA has won two in a row and 8 of the last 12 meetings.
