Texas A&M Swaps Out Tarleton State for Samford in 2025

The Texas A&M Aggies (SEC) have switched FCS opponents for the 2025 season. Instead of the Tarleton State Texans from the United Athletic Conference, the Aggies will play against the Samford Bulldogs out of the Southern Conference on Saturday, November 22. Samford and Texas A&M have never met in football.

Samford is 1-29 against FBS/I-A opponents since the Division I split in 1978 with the lone victory occurring in 2013 against Georgia State (31-21). The Bulldogs are 0-14 against SEC opponents and Texas A&M will mark the fifth straight year they’ve played against the SEC. Samford has one other future FBS team on its future schedule against Georgia Southern in 2027.

Tarleton State and TAMU had originally agreed to the 2025 contest in 2020. It is not known if the game has been canceled or moved to a different season. Like Samford, it would have been the first meeting between the two programs. TAMU is 29-0 against FCS/I-AA teams since 1978 and 2-0 against Southern Conference opponents. Other than Samford, the Aggies only have one additional future FCS opponent scheduled against Abilene Christian in 2028.

There are 370 future FCS-FBS matchups scheduled including 114 for the 2025 season. A full listing of those games can be found here.
