The Alcorn State Braves and Mississippi Rebels will meet on the football field for the first time in 2028. It will also be the first time Mississippi has played an HBCU opponent.
The game was part of a larger release of future contests for the Rebels.
βTo play an HBCU from our state is something weβve been wanting to do for quite some time, and hopefully this will open the door for other meetings with HBCU institutions in the future,” said Ole Miss athletics director Keith Carter in a statement.
Mississippi faces FCS opponents Southeast Missouri State (2020), Austin Peay (2021), Central Arkansas (2022), Mercer (2023), Furman (2024), The Citadel (2025), and Eastern Kentucky (2026) in the future.
As for Alcorn State, they will play FBS foes Auburn (2020), South Alabama (2021), Tulane (2022), and Mississippi State (2025) in addition to Ole Miss in 2028.
Alcorn tentatively begins the 2020 season against Auburn on Saturday, September 5.
