2024 Celebration Bowl Date Set; Multiple FCS Teams Schedule Future Games

It was another busy day of scheduling news at the FCS level with four separate news items. First, the 2024 Celebration Bowl has been set for Saturday, December 14 with kickoff at 12 PM Eastern Time. The expansion of FBS College Football Playoffs led to a changing of the bowl schedule as the Celebration Bowl would normally be played one week after the ArmyNavy game. The schedule change means the SWAC Championship game will be played a week before the Celebration Bowl on Saturday, December 7 while the MEAC Champion will have a three-week break between games.

Per FBSchedules, Maine and Liberty will play on Saturday, August 30, 2025. Maine will receive $400,000 for the game. The two programs have met twice before with both teams winning one game. Maine captured the first game at home in 1992 by a score of 42-20 while Liberty won at home 59-44 in 2019. Maine is also slated to play at Georgia Southern in 2025 on Saturday, September 20. There are over 440 FCS versus FBS games have been scheduled through the 2034 season including a record 121 contests in 2024. A full list of allĀ future FCS-FBS matchups can be found here.

Idaho and South Dakota have scheduled a home-and-home series for the 2029 and 2030 seasons, according to FBSchedules. South Dakota will host the first game in Vermillion on Saturday, September 8, 2029 while Idaho will play host the following year on Saturday, September 14. The two schools have not met previously in football.

The final item to note, again courtesy of FBSchedules, is the addition of a 2029 matchup between North Alabama and Southeast Missouri State. The two schools will meet on Saturday, September 1, 2029 with North Alabama hosting the contest. The two schools were already scheduled to meet in 2024, which was recently designated by ESPN as the 2024 FCS Kickoff in Montgomery, Alabama with UNA considered the home team. Southeast Missouri State will now host the 2025 game on Saturday, September 6.
